Searching for Patients

Search Locations

Main Patient List Search

The primary search function is located on the Patients page:

  1. Navigate to the Patients page using the top navigation
  2. Locate the search bar at the top of the page
  3. The search box displays with a blue “Search” button

Visit Creation Search

When creating a new visit:

  1. Click the “Select” button under Patient (optional)
  2. The patient selection dialog opens
  3. Search bar appears at the top of the dialog

Using the Search Function

Basic Search

To search for a patient:

  1. Click in the search text box
  2. Start typing your search query
  3. Click the blue “Search” button or press Enter
  4. Results display immediately below

What You Can Search

The search function accepts:

  • Patient names – First name, last name, or full name
  • Partial names – Type part of a name to find matches

Search Behavior

  • Case-insensitive – Searches work regardless of capitalization
  • Persistent search – Search remains active while navigating pages
  • Clear to reset – Delete search text to see all patients again

Search Results

Results Display

Search results show:

  • Same card layout as regular patient list
  • Only matching patients displayed
  • Pagination updates to show result pages
  • Patient count adjusts to match results

No Results Found

When no matches exist:

  • Empty results area displays
  • “No patients found” message may appear
  • Check spelling and try alternative searches
  • Clear search to return to full list

Advanced Search Techniques

Partial Name Searching

For best results with partial names:

  1. Start with first few letters of first name
  2. Or use last name if more unique
  3. Combine first and last name parts
  4. Use most distinctive part of name

Example searches:

  • “Tyr” to find “Tyreek Cole”
  • “Cole” to find all patients with last name Cole

Handling Multiple Matches

When search returns many results:

  1. Add more characters to narrow results
  2. Include both first and last name
  3. Use patient ID if known
  4. Browse through paginated results

Search in Patient Selection

During Visit Creation

The patient selection dialog search:

  1. Opens when clicking “Select” under Patient
  2. Search bar at top of dialog
  3. “New Patient” option always appears first
  4. Existing patients listed below

Selection Dialog Features

  • New Patient card – Always visible for creating new patients
  • Search filtering – Hides non-matching patients
  • Click to select – Click any patient card to choose
  • Cancel option – Close dialog without selecting

Including Archived Patients

Toggle Archive Display

To search archived patients:

  1. Locate “Show archived patients” toggle
  2. Click to enable (turns blue when active)
  3. Search now includes archived records
  4. Archived patients appear in results
