The kit

What is in the telemedicine kit

The kit arrives pre-connected, configured, and tested. It works over your existing Wi-Fi and charges from a standard outlet, so a site needs no dedicated circuit or static IP.

14-inch touchscreen tablet

A large touchscreen with the CureCompanion software preloaded. The on-site team runs the whole visit from it: video, device switching, vitals, and notes.

1080p HD webcam

The room view for the visit, so the provider sees and talks with the patient while the exam devices do the close-up work.

IP-67 rated hard case

Dust-proof and water-proof, with cut foam that holds every device and cable in its place between visits and in transit.

8+ hour battery

A full clinic day of visits away from an outlet, with charging from any standard outlet overnight or between visits.

Nine integrated medical devices

Digital stethoscope, video otoscope, handheld exam camera, 12-lead ECG, blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, spirometer, glucometer, and thermometer, configured for your program.

20 lbs, one-person carry

Light enough for one person to carry between rooms, into a vehicle, or to a school nurse's office, and to store on a shelf when the visit is done.

Virtual examination and auscultation, not just video calls

How a telehealth kit visit works

With a basic video platform, the remote provider has only the patient's own description to go on. Using the telemedicine kit, a provider examines the patient's skin, eyes, ears, and throat, listens to heart and lung sounds, and gets vitals and diagnostics, with the help of a local nurse or assistant.

01

Open the case and connect

The tablet joins your Wi-Fi and runs on battery or a standard outlet. The kit arrives pre-connected and configured.

02

Start the visit

An on-site nurse, medical assistant, or school nurse signs in on the tablet and starts the video visit. The provider joins from a browser or the mobile app, wherever they are.

03

Examine

Switch to the stethoscope, otoscope, or exam camera and the provider sees and hears live. Blood pressure, oxygen saturation, spirometry, and the 12-lead ECG sync into the record over Bluetooth, without manual entry.

04

Document

Images, sounds, and readings stay with the patient record. AI documentation that drafts the note is available on the platform.

Video-only visit vs telehealth kit visit

Exam Video-only visit Telehealth kit visit

Skin and wounds

A webcam view, with lighting and angle set by the patient.

Handheld exam camera with adjustable LEDs and close focus, streamed live to the provider.

Ears, nose, and throat

Not examinable; the patient describes the symptoms.

Video otoscope streams the ear canal, eardrum, nose, and throat in HD.

Heart and lungs

The patient reports how they feel.

Digital stethoscope streams heart and lung sounds for live auscultation.

Vital signs

Home readings read aloud and typed in later, if the patient has the devices.

Blood pressure, pulse oximetry, temperature, and spirometry captured on site; Bluetooth readings go straight into the record.

ECG

Not available; the patient travels for a tracing.

12-lead ECG in about 30 seconds, with the tracing in the visit record.

Workflows are modeled on in-person visits, so staff run the kit after a 60 to 90 minute remote training session, and your own providers see the patients.

Integrated medical devices

Medical devices in the telemedicine kit

The kit ships with the full device set below, configured for your program; devices can be added or removed to match your exams and sites. USB devices stream live in the video visit, and Bluetooth devices send readings into the patient record without manual entry.

Digital stethoscope

Riester

Full 20 to 2,000 Hz auscultation range, powered from the kit over USB with no batteries or buttons. The provider hears heart and lung sounds live during the visit, and sounds can be recorded for review.

Software included with every kit

One software platform runs the kit

The kit is sold with the CureCompanion platform, the same software that runs our telemedicine carts and remote patient monitoring. It drives the devices during the visit, keeps the record, and connects to your EHR.

Encrypted video visits from a browser on any device, or from the iOS and Android apps.

One-touch device switching: activate the stethoscope, otoscope, or exam camera and the software detects it and streams it to the provider.

Bluetooth vitals and the 12-lead ECG write into the patient record without manual entry.

Patient records, visit notes, and progress notes in one place.

EHR integration via SMART on FHIR and PointClickCare.

AI documentation that drafts the note from the visit conversation, and facility-defined post-visit assessments, available on the platform.

White label: the software can carry your program's name.

Telehealth software platform →

Minimal training

Workflows are modeled on in-person visits. Remote training runs 60 to 90 minutes per team, with refreshers available, and your own providers see the patients.

Security and compliance

HIPAA compliant with a Business Associate Agreement: AES-256 encryption at rest, TLS 1.2+ in transit, access controls, audit logging, and automated daily backups.

One platform across kits, carts, and RPM

One license per organization covers telemedicine kits, carts, and remote patient monitoring. Add carts or home kits later and they share the same patient record.

Where kits go

Where portable telemedicine kits are used

The same kit serves very different programs. Each one gets a full exam, the same software, and one vendor for warranty and support.

Rural and community health

A telehealth kit for rural clinics, satellite sites, and critical access hospitals: specialist consults and follow-ups without the drive, optimized for low-resource settings.

Telehealth for rural and community health →

Schools

A telemedicine kit for schools lets the school nurse connect a student to a provider during the school day, with ears, throat, lungs, and vitals examined on the spot.

Telehealth technology for schools →

In-home and post-acute visits

Home health and post-acute teams carry the exam room to the patient, so the visiting nurse and the remote provider complete the assessment together.

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Bring a specialist into the exam room on demand, without a cart, for the cases that would otherwise be referred out.

Mobile health vans and outreach

A mobile telemedicine kit for vans, pop-up clinics, and outreach events. It runs on battery for a full day and connects wherever the van has Wi-Fi.

Remote worksites

One kit at a remote worksite gives a crew access to a physician far from the nearest clinic, with the on-site medic handling the devices.

Many programs pair telemedicine carts at the main site with kits at satellite sites, schools, and in the field, all on one software license and one patient record.

Which form factor

Telemedicine kit, telemedicine cart, or starter kit?

Three ways to put the same software and devices to work. Most programs mix them: carts at the main site, kits wherever the visit moves.

Compare Telemedicine Kit Telemedicine Cart Starter Telemedicine Kit

Best for

Kit: satellite sites, schools, home visits, vans, and anywhere the visit moves.

Cart: inpatient units, emergency departments, and facility-based exam rooms.

Starter: a low-cost first step on computers you already own.

Display and camera

Kit: 14-inch touchscreen tablet with 1080p HD webcam.

Cart: 27-inch 1080p display, pan-tilt-zoom 1080p camera, conference-grade speaker and microphone.

Starter: your own PC, laptop, or mobile device, plus an HD webcam and speakerphone.

Medical devices

Kit: nine integrated devices, from the digital stethoscope and otoscope to the 12-lead ECG and spirometer, configured per program.

Cart: the same device menu, configured per facility; also available without medical devices for video-only programs.

Starter: digital stethoscope, video otoscope, and handheld exam camera.

Power and portability

Kit: 8+ hour battery, IP-67 rated hard case, 20 lbs.

Cart: medical-grade battery backup (UPS), pneumatic height adjustment, rolling cart built for hospital use.

Starter: 12-inch hard case with cut foam; powered by your computer.

Software

Kit: CureCompanion platform, licensed per organization.

Cart: same platform and license; the cart is an open workstation your other clinical software can run on.

Starter: same platform, on the starter plan.

The kit brings the same exam devices as a cart at lower hardware cost, which is why kits are often the equipment line in grant budgets. The starter kit is devices and accessories for computers you already own; the telemedicine kit is the complete, self-contained exam room.

Setup, ownership, funding

Deploying a telemedicine kit: setup, ownership, and grant funding

One kit per satellite site, school, or outreach team is a common equipment line in telehealth grant budgets. We supply equipment to USDA DLT grant recipients and state telemedicine programs, and we work with organizations putting Rural Health Transformation Program funds to work.

Setup and ownership

Delivery

The kit arrives pre-connected, configured, and tested, typically 4 to 6 weeks after order.

Training

Remote, 60 to 90 minutes per team, with refreshers available.

Network and power

About 1 Mbps per visit, 4 to 5 Mbps recommended. Charges from a standard outlet; no dedicated circuit or static IP.

Warranty and support

12-month warranty, with email and phone support.

Ownership

Hardware is purchased outright with no recurring hardware charges. Software is licensed per organization, not per kit or per user.

Grant programs that fund telemedicine kits

Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP). CMS's five-year program funds all 50 states, which sub-award to rural providers. Its infrastructure and technology priority covers equipment and telehealth, and states are funding telehealth and remote patient monitoring projects with it. How we fulfill RHTP telehealth, RPM, and AI expectations →

USDA Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT). We have responded to DLT equipment bids and delivered kits to DLT grant recipients, with the itemized quotes, specification sheets, and equipment descriptions a budget justification needs.

State and foundation grants. State telemedicine grants, school-based health center grants, and foundation awards look for a sustainable program and equipment that keeps working after the grant ends: hardware owned outright and one software license per organization.

Questions

Telemedicine kit FAQ

The questions clinics, schools, and grant applicants ask before they request a quote for a kit.

What is a telemedicine kit?

A telemedicine kit is a portable case that holds everything needed to examine a patient remotely: a touchscreen tablet or computer, a camera and microphone, integrated medical devices such as a digital stethoscope, otoscope, exam camera, and vitals monitors, and the software that streams the exam to a remote provider. The CureCompanion telemedicine kit packs all of this into a 20 lb IP-67 rated case.

Is a telehealth kit the same as a telemedicine kit?

Yes. Telehealth kit and telemedicine kit are two names for the same portable exam equipment; some programs also say telemedicine case or mobile telehealth kit. Whatever the name, the test is the same: can the remote provider see, hear, and measure the patient, not just talk to them.

What is included in the CureCompanion telemedicine kit, and can we add devices later?

A 14-inch touchscreen tablet, 1080p HD webcam, IP-67 rated hard case with cut foam, the CureCompanion software, and nine integrated medical devices: digital stethoscope, video otoscope, handheld exam camera, 12-lead ECG, blood pressure monitor, pulse oximeter, spirometer, glucometer, and non-contact thermometer. Kits are built to order, so devices can be removed for your program and added later.

How much does the kit weigh, and how long does the battery last?

About 20 lbs fully loaded, so one person carries it. The battery runs 8+ hours of visits and charges from any standard outlet.

What internet connection does the telemedicine kit need?

The kit connects to Wi-Fi. Plan on about 1 Mbps per concurrent video visit, with 4 to 5 Mbps recommended. No dedicated circuit, static IP, or special network equipment is required.

Who operates the kit on the patient side, and how much training do they need?

A nurse, medical assistant, school nurse, or community health worker runs the kit while the provider directs the exam remotely. Workflows are modeled on in-person visits; training is remote and usually takes 60 to 90 minutes per team, with refreshers available.

Does the kit work with our EHR?

The CureCompanion platform integrates through SMART on FHIR and with PointClickCare, so visit notes, images, and readings can flow into the record your organization already uses. Tell us which EHR you run and we will confirm the integration path.

Is the telemedicine kit HIPAA compliant?

Video, images, sounds, and readings travel through the CureCompanion platform, which is HIPAA compliant: encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest (AES-256), access controls, audit logging, automated daily backups, and a Business Associate Agreement.

How much does a telemedicine kit cost?

It depends on the devices in the kit and how many kits you need. Hardware is purchased outright with no recurring hardware charges, and the software is licensed per organization rather than per kit or per user. Request a quote and we will itemize a configuration for your program and budget.

Can RHTP, USDA DLT, or state grant funds pay for telemedicine kits?

Telemedicine kits are a common equipment line in these programs. RHTP's infrastructure and technology priority names telehealth and other digital tools, USDA DLT grants have funded telemedicine kits and carts for years, and state telemedicine grants follow the same pattern. Eligibility and allowable costs are decided by the program and your state; we supply the quotes and specifications your application needs. Our RHTP telehealth, RPM, and AI guide →
